FAQs

It is best to change your air conditioning filter monthly, in some cases you can wait longer but a few things should be considered. How many pets are in the home, how many people in the home suffer from allergies, how is the dust level in the home, and at what temperature do you typically run your system at? When an A/C is set to cooler temperatures, the filter will need to be changed more frequently opposed to a system that is set at warmer temps. This is due to the fact the blower in the A/C will be used more often to circulate the air in the home. When you keep the system at higher temperatures the less air flow is happening and therefore less air is circulating. Generally 30 days is recommended but in some cases 60 or 90 days is sufficient if less people are in the house, no pets, no allergies, and A/C use is minimal.

We replace units between 12 and 15 years. A newer unit is suggested to be more energy efficient and cost effective with your electric bill. Once you begin to have multiple breakdown costs you may need to consider replacement versus repair.

It is found that when a room is facing the south or the southwest side of the house it can be hotter. The sun sets in the west, causing heat to make the room hotter than the rest of the house. Another reason can be because it is the furthest room away from the air handler, therefore it will lose air pressure and it will take longer for air to reach and cool this area.

It is recommended to clear the drain line every six months. We suggest monthly maintenance of adding bleach or vinegar to the drain line to assist in prevention of algae buildup. Having the drain line cleared is a service that is provided in our preventative maintenance plans.

We suggest you do not turn off the AC when you leave. It is suggested to raise the temperature at least to maintain lower humidity levels in the house and the AC will not take a long time to cool down the house upon your arrival home.

Tips to Improve Air Conditioning Efficiency

  • Frequently check the AC filter to make sure it has been cleaned and/or changed
  • Make sure that nothing has caused the breaker to be tripped
  • Check your drain line for proper drainage – add bleach or vinegar in small amounts to keep it free of algae and build-up
  • Check the thermostat batteries to make sure they are new and working properly
  • Keep your condenser (outside unit) clear of debris and landscape
  • Make sure the thermostat is not close to heat producing appliances or lamps
  • Check duct work to make sure ducts are sealed and no air is escaping
  • Add additional insulation in the attic and/or walls to assist in keeping your home cool
  • Keep indoor vents clean and clear of dust and objects
