This may not be a new concept to the DOE, Department of Energy but for the homeowner it can be concerning. This change occurs every six years with the Department of Energy. As the department reviews energy efficiency and energy effects and systems are tested. with the newly established minimum energy efficiency requirements being said, new SEER ratings will take place making them SEER2. You may have already researched the DOE has changed the testing procedure used to rate the efficiency of HVAC equipment to be more accurate of today’s equipment installations. Now all new equipment will be rated SEER2.

What does SEER2 mean and how does it affect me?

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. This is a measure of the cooling efficiency of your home/office air conditioning system. Typically, a higher SEER rating, the more energy efficient the unit will be. We always take the SEER rating into consideration when replacing a customer’s existing air conditioning system. Our area, here in the Southeast of Florida will be required as of January 1, 2023 to have a SEER2 system installed when replacing the existing A/C system. Let’s keep in mind that these new units will start to phase out older systems and as inventory becomes less and less available, we will do our best to offer options for repairs, keeping in mind cost effective options for replacement.
